Bunte (Doris) is born in New York City.

The daughter Evelyn Bunte, Doris Bunte grows up in New York, drops out of high school, becomes a single mother, and comes to Boston in 1963. She works in a factory and as a domestic, lives in the Orchard Park public housing development, and is appointed a tenant representative to the Boston Housing Authority board in 1969.* Bunte subsequently GED and a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree from Harvard University. She serves in the Massachusetts House of Representees (1973-85), as BHA administrator (1985*-92), and teaches at Boston University and Northeastern University. Bunte dies in Brookline on February 15, 2021. Mayor Ray Flynn subsequently says of Bunte, “She rose to the challenge and succeeded. And not only her, but the city succeeded and the tenants succeeded.”
